#7. Why 85 questions? In fact, some of our surveys are customized to the client, and may have more than 85 questions. But every survey includes most or all of our 85 core questions.
So as to why we have 85 core questions, sorry, but this gets technical...
We started with a survey of surveys, including ones we had developed and others, and abstracted over 100 organizational effectiveness issues. Then we developed 439 questions designed to identify those issues of primary concern for a given organization. We trimmed those down to 193 questions concerning the 34 issues that are most important for improving performance, then used those in surveys with a total of over 48,000 responses. We analyzed those survey results to identify an efficient set of questions with the greatest diagnostic power to identify the organizational effectiveness issues of most concern, and the dialogues that most need to be conducted, for any given company. We didn't pick the number "85" -- that is simply the number of questions identified by our analyses.
